January 26, 1978, a very important person who changed my life was born, my husband, Alex Paul Loza. We celebrate 40 years of him being present in this world.

Thank you for all that you do. Here’s a little something I wrote for you.

Dear hubby,
We pause on THIS day, to celebrate YOU. Your birth. Your journey. Your life.

Each day you inspire me and our daughters. You wake up each day with a strong will and determination ready to conquer the world. I am so grateful for all of the hours, hard work, and sleepless nights you endure working on your art projects for our family’s future.

Respect and commitment are two actions you live by and I commend that.

On this birthday, I want you to know what a gift you are to our daughters and to me. You aren’t simply their dad, you are their friend, their mentor, their teacher and my BFF. I watch how they look up to you, how they light up when you enter a room and how the sun dims just a touch when you are away. You remind me of my dad, as he too would make his family a priority like you always do.

Besides believing in our girls and in me, you believe in other people and truly rally alongside of them. I say this because I’ve had many different dreams, ideas and desires in our 9+ married years together and you’ve supported them ALL, without complaint.

You are living your dream right now as a full time visual artist who gets to spend as much time as possible with our girls. It doesn’t matter the circumstances, you just want to be WITH them, you want to be teaching them, you want to be making them laugh. You truly are a blessing to us and to all that know you. I am privileged to be sharing this life with you.

As you enter your 40’s, know this – you are doing it right. You have two small people who, quite literally believe you can do anything and they are right.

You are our hero. Continue to find joy in every moment with us. Never forget all of the crazy-special-amazing we see in you.

I wish you nothing but the wisdom and peace that comes with being 40. I can’t wait to celebrate many many more birthdays with you.

We love you!

(An opening reception for a showing of paintings by Alex Paul Loza will be next Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. at Arts Building on E. 11th Street at King Street)

Why Are Joda Thongnopnua And Phil Bredesen Downplaying Their Democratic Values?

For the past several months, the Democratic Party has reached a tipping point. “Their Resistance” is to oppose anything and everything Republicans are doing to deliver a stronger economy and better economic opportunities for all Americans.  Yet, I find it very interesting that the public outcry we are seeing from the Democrats on a national level is nowhere to be found when ... Roy Exum: It’s ‘Tennessee Week’

For over 50 years I have heard the line, “There are two things you must never do on ‘The Third Saturday of October.’ You mustn’t ever marry and try not to die because, in either case, the preacher won’t show up.” He’ll be watching “The Game.” Ever since Oct 18, 1901, Tennessee and Alabama have been going at it and that inaugural game set the tone as well as the standard for all ...
